Mekong River (Lancangjiang) in Yunnan Provence, Southwestern China
About THE RIVER
The Mekong River, known by many as “Mother Water,” is one of the world's largest and most dynamic hydrological wonders. From its Tibetan headwaters, the mighty waterway flows nearly 3,000 miles to the South China Sea, and forms the lifeblood of Southeast Asia. Along the way it passes through six countries, feeds 60 million people, and creates one of the world's most teeming and diverse freshwater ecosystems. The Mekong's jungles hide elephants and tigers, while her banks define cultures, communities, and entire ways of life. But history is set to forever shift these flowing waters, as human development, dams, and climate change, all bring unprecedented change.
OUR FILM
Lost on the Mekong is a documentary mini-series about two old friends, far from home, exploring this great waterway. From melting snow and ice, through blistering tropical sun, to the mouth of the Nine Headed Dragon, Walker and Ed follow the journey of a raindrop as it traverses one of Asia's longest rivers. By thumb, tractor, bicycle, and boat, their journey opens a window-in-time to vanishing communities, habitats, and homes.
